Speaker reads a traditional song of the Yi ethnicity in Southern Nisu (NSD) language from a written version in traditional Yi script that he himself crafted for the occasion. Although he is himself a native speaker of Luodie Phola (YPG), he is also a fluent speaker in present day Southern Nisu (NSD). Moreover, he is an animistic shaman in the bimoist tradition (毕摩) of the Yi ethnic group. Hence, he is well-versed in Yi traditions including the medieval Yi script used for ritualistic purposes.
