Description

Dubbings from material recorded by Raymond Clausen in August 1962 at Batarghobu, N. Malekula. 1. Meleram, 2. Welal, 3. et segu; various pan-pipes (Nimbu Wetur, or Nembu Muir, and Mutan Ru). Nembu Muir are 6-pipe, Mutau Ru is 7-pipe. The latter probably not played as described on tape, but held close to mouth, as the other examples. Difference may have to do with whether nodes are left in and pierced, at lower end of each bamboo tube. Will try to check on this with Samne (who is still about).
