Biography
Born 'in the bush’ around the Tobin Lake area c.1930, the artist was a Kukatja/Wangkatjunka speaker, whose traditional country was in the area surrounding the northern Canning Stock Route. Muntja was the 'boss’ woman for the Wangkatjunta mob at Balgo – both by the force of her personality and her knowledge of Women’s Law. She worked closely with anthropologists at various times and was a recognised authority at many gatherings. She had been painting her Tingari and Dingo Dreamings since 1986 in works which display her authority in matters of the Law. Her husband, John Mosquito , is also an artist of note.
