15T Whitton Wyanco - named after John Whitton, an early Engineer - in - chief for the N.S.W. Government Railways, who was in charge of the Zig-zag at Emu Plains and the Lithgow Valley. The railway to Bathurst was opened on April 4, 1876. this crossing of the mountain range was looked upon as one of the finest pieces of engineering in the world. He died at Sydney Feb: 20, 1898 Ref: Stretch Ledger A9082
