Description

28R Rushcutters Bay Sub of Sydney - so named because men employed cutting rushes here were killed by the Aboriginals. Ref: Stretch Ledger A9082 Note: originally named "Blackburn Cove" after the Master of H.M.S. "Supply". The bay was low lying and covered with rushes on which cattle and horses were turned out to feed. It was in cutting some of these rushes in the early days that some of the men so employed were killed by the blacks. Hence the name.
