34G Nana Glen N W Coffs Harbour - Aboriginal meaning: a small lilzard. Ref: Stretch Ledger A9082 Note: 14/04/03 ABC A M Sharpe came to the area around 1888 that had adopted the name "Nana", an aboriginal name for a darkish brown lizard skink (cenatosis robusta) that had two tails. They were sacred to the local aborigines - average size mostl 10-12 inches but some grew to 18". In 1888 Mr Sharpe called his farm "The Glen" In later years it became a staging post for coaches. There was activity at the Nana goldfields etc. Sharpes farm eventually passed into the hands of Mr and Mrs Sherwood and the farm became known as Nana Glen. A post office opened around 1900/1902 and it adopted the name "NANA GLEN"
