Monaro S Cooma - Aboriginal meaning: breasts, hills. (see opp) Ref: Stretch Ledger A9082 Note: "Monaro was discovered in May 1823 by Captain M. J. Currie, R.N., and Brigade-Major Ovens with a bushman named Wild. They named it Brisbane Downs after the then Governor, Sir Thomas Brisbane. It later reverted to the native name."
