Biography
Cabinetmaker who was born on Jersey, one of the Channel Islands. He was apprenticed to Henry Bridge in 1881. It is not known when he arrived in Western Australia, possibly during World War I, but he had his own cabinetmaking business in Fitzgerald Street, Perth by 1916. Here he had a showroom to display his furniture. He had married Florence Roe in 1894. Their son Victor Eugene was born in 1900. Victor was apprenticed to his father and when the former closed his business in 1940 Victor worked from premises in Floreat Park. He was more of a bespoke cabinetmaker obtaining work through contacts. His style was moderne as opposed to his fathers’ turn of the century modern. Victor’s son Barry, born in 1935, was apprenticed to his father and had a factory in Garden Street, Osborne Park. Barry was more interested in furniture restoration and period styles.
