Biography
cartoonist, contributed to the Bulletin in 1919, then disappeared. Stylistically and chronologically she could be Bertha Bennet Burleigh ('BBB’) who began sending cartoons to the Bulletin in 1921. Originals by Nind in ML include: Merely Jane and Ermyntrude (two women discussing a soldier in distance): “He walked home with me last night!”/ “Oh, just arrived, I suppose! They’re glad to pick up anything at first” ( Bulletin , 22 May 1919); and The Village Gossip (a class of schoolgirls with teacher): The School-Maam: “Perhaps you will tell me why you did not give my note to your Father?”/ Her friend: “Please Miss, she ain’t got a Father, 'er Mother’s a Single lady” ( Bulletin , 31 July 1919, p 16). A note on the bottom of the latter reads 'BN. Springwood. Wagga Wagga’ – 'B.N.’ either being the contributor of the gag or 'Bertha Nind’. Almost certainly the daughter of Isaac Scott Nind and Maria Nind, born in Liverpool, NSW, 1865. This entry is a stub. You can help DAAO by submitting a biography.
