Biography
Joy Duncan was born in Moree, north west New South Wales in 1941 and grew up on Toomelah Aboriginal Mission near Boggabilla. As a child, Duncan’s mother would take her and her sisters to the local river and waterholes to catch fish and yabbies. It is these memories that are reflected in her works of ochre on cotton rag pulp handmade paper. Duncan and May Hinch were founding members of the Euraba Paper Company and Duncan has exhibited her work in Landmarks – Artists’ Book Show in 2004 at Noosa Regional Gallery and in Euraba Paper Artists in 2005 at Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre. Duncan was a finalist in the 2005 and 2006 Parliament of NSW Indigenous Art Prize. Writers: Allas, Tess Date written: 2007 Last updated: 2011
