Biography
Born at Haasts Bluff in 1948, Lily has country in the Haasts Bluff area, also the Women Dreaming story associated with Kunatjarrayi. She came to the newly established settlement of Papunya in the early ’60s as a young girl and remained in the settlement for many years before moving to Mt Liebig, residing with her husband, Norman Kelly , also a painter. They have three children and at the time of writing five grandchildren. A Luritja speaker, Lily began painting for Papunya Tula Artists in the mid ’80s and one of her works from this decade was selected from the 1986 Caltex/Northern Territory Art Award for inclusion in the Araluen Trust’s collection of Western Desert paintings.
