Biography
Jennifer Dunne, painter and mixed media artist, was born in Melbourne in 1962. A descendent of the Kirrae Wurrung and Gunditjmara peoples, Dunne’s acrylic and ochre works often depict the designs that were traditionally incised on the interior surface of possum-skin cloaks owned by members of Victorian Aboriginal tribes. The 19th century cloak that is housed in the Melbourne Museum has been a source of inspiration for Dunne: the cloak was discovered at Lake Condah, which is in Gunditjmara country (her Great-Grandmother’s country) in southwestern Victoria. Dunne was short-listed for the 2005 and 2008 Victorian Indigenous Art Awards. This entry is a stub. You can help the DAAO by submitting a biography.
