Biography
Screenprinter and painter Peter Dabah was born in 1963 in North Queensland, the eldest of six children. Until he enrolled in a two year art course at Cairns TAFE he worked as a wardsman and handyman at Yarrabah Aboriginal Reserve (south of Cairns) and as an apprentice chef. After completing the course Dabah relocated to Adelaide and enrolled as a student at the Underdale Campus of South Australian College of Advanced Education and then at Tauondi Aboriginal Community College in Port Adelaide where he took a course in painting and creative writing. In 1989 – 1990 Dabah was the Artist-in-Residence at Flinders University in Adelaide. Following this residency he staged his first solo exhibition 'Picking Up The Pieces’ at the Flinders University Union Gallery as part of the 1990 Fringe Festival.
