Biography
Akira Isogawa is an internationally renowned fashion designer based in Sydney. He arrived in Australia from Japan in 1986, on a working holiday. Isogawa works with a team of pattern makers and sewers in his Sydney studio. He also draws on the skills of craftspeople from overseas and has some aspects of production manufactured in China. From 1998, one of Akira Isogawa’s most rewarding enterprises has been designing for the Sydney Dance Company. In 2005 Isogawa worked with director Graeme Murphy on the performance Grand, designing and producing around 100 costumes. He also collaborated with lighting experts, a team of 18 dancers and wardrobe supervisor Fiona Holley, and acknowledges the important influence that this involvement has had on aspects of his fashion design.
