Mungo Man and Mungo Lady's remains were found near Lake Mungo, NSW and they show evidence of an approx. 42,000 year old ritual burial thus making some of the oldest remains (of Homo Sapiens) ever found, outside of Africa. They are of great importance to their Aboriginal descendants who reside in the Willandra Lakes area, such as the Paakantji, Ngyiampaa and Mutthi Mutthi people.
