Biography
A long time resident of Yuendumu, Liddy Walker was born c.1930 at Jarradajarrayi (Mt Theo), which is associated with Wardapi (Goanna) and Warna (Snake) Dreamings. She is also responsible, through her father, for a Dogwood Dreaming. Liddy is part of the group of senior Warlpiri women who began painting ceremonial designs at Yuendumu in the early 1980s. She has exhibited regularly with Warlukurlangu Artists since the community’s first exhibition of paintings at Araluen Arts Centre in Alice Springs in October 1985 and still paints daily at the art centre. Her Dreamings are Warna (Snake), Kanta (Bloodwood Gall or Bush Coconut), Wardapi (Goanna) and Wakirlipirri (Acacia Seed). Bean Dreaming 1985 , on which she collaborated with Topsy Napanangka and Judy Nampitjinpa Granites , was purchased by the National Gallery of Australia and was included in the Windows of the Dreaming exhibition at the Gallery in 1989.
