17Y Murray R. South Border of NSW - named by Captain Charles Sturt in 1830 after Sir George Murray, Secretary of State for War 1828-30. Ref: Stretch Ledger A9082 Note: The Murray River - was originally named Hume River by W H Hovell and H H Hume on November 16, 1824 after Hume's father - it was rediscovered by Capt. Charles Sturt further down stream in 1830 and named by him after Sir George Murray.
